  • Morocco uses the Moroccan Dirham (MAD) as its currency. As of July 2024, 1 MAD = 0.11 USD / 0.09 GBP. Dirham is a closed currency so you can only get hold of the currency when you are in Morocco.
  • Morocco uses plug types C and E. The standard voltage is 220V with a frequency of 50Hz, so ensure your devices are compatible or bring a suitable adapter.
  • Public transport in Morocco is extensive and affordable but it is not very modern. Major cities offer buses, trams, and taxis. For intercity travel, you can use trains, buses, or car rentals, although the driving experience would be very intense!
  • Morocco operates on Western European Time (WET), which is UTC+0, and during daylight saving time, it shifts to UTC+1.
  • Tipping is by no means mandatory in Morocco. However, rounding the bill up or leaving a small tip is standard practice. It is also common practice to haggle.
  • Depending on your nationality, you may need a visa for Morocco. Check specific visa requirements based on your country.
  • Ensure your passport is valid for at least six months beyond your planned departure date.
  • Routine vaccinations like hepatitis and typhoid should be up to date.
  • Morocco is generally safe for travellers, but itโ€™s wise to stay aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded areas. There is also a reputation of it being unsafe for females and a culture of hard selling to tourists. You should be careful not to touch things if you do not want to buy them.

If you visit Morocco, you will need to choose your travel dates wisely depending on the experience you desire. Major cities and desert destinations in Morocco will be busier in the cooler months due to the favourable weather; however, the summer months bring the offer of beautiful coastal experiences.

  • AirBNB: My go to place for finding apartments. I find the platform so user friendly and the variety to be incredible.. This platform is more suited to people who do not want to stay in hotels, people who may want additional facilities such as a kitchen or laundry.

Flights and transportation:

  • Omio: This website simplifies planning and booking for trains, buses, and flights. It provides detailed schedules, prices, and user reviews, allowing travellers to compare and book the best travel options.
  • Google Flights: This is my go to place when I’m looking for flights. It offers so much flexibility and the interface is incredibly easy to use. 
  • Skyscanner: The only real alternative to google flights. They are slightly different but offer the same overall service.
